Welcome to the Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge, an annual tuna tournament and fundraiser in San Diego with all proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of San Diego, Inc.
Participate by signing up for the 2014 tournament, or by donating your time, money, or both, to the Make A Wish Foundation® or the Tuna Challenge event. Come by our Tuna Challenge booth at one of the special events below to donate or for more information on how you can help.
On Thursday evening, August 7, 2014, the Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge tournament will host its 13th Annual Tuna Fishing Seminar at Silver Gate Yacht Club on beautiful Shelter Island. This annual event is a great opportunity for tournament anglers and the public alike to learn about the latest techniques, equipment, and secrets for catching tuna in our local San Diego waters. It is free of charge and all interested anglers are invited to attend. There will be food, beer and wine for purchase. Everyone in attendance will also receive a free raffle ticket for great fishing-related door prizes! You will also be able to register for the Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge tournament if you haven’t already done so. Skippers looking for extra crewmembers or anglers wishing to “hook-up” with a boat in order to participate in the tournament will find this the event to attend! But you don’t have to be registered for the tournament to attend. Just come on down and enjoy the fun. Click here for more detail.
2014 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge. In this very special year, in addition to our already great angler prizes, we are introducing an optional twist to the friendly competition. For an additional fee ($50 per boat per side pot) each registered boat (team) can compete for a $500 cash prize (per side pot) for the largest yellowtail and the largest dorado. Only boats that have paid for the additional side pot entrance fee will be eligible for each $500 cash prize, which will be paid to the team captain. All paid anglers in the tournament are eligible for the individual prize for the largest yellowtail and the largest dorado, regardless of whether their team has entered the additional side pot or not. We encourage all teams to enter the two additional side pots ($50 per side pot per team), as 100% of the net proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and help wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
We still have some of our custom 25th anniversary T-Shirts. This shirt has custom, special edition artwork for this year's event so get yours before they are all gone.
