Make-A-Wish® Tuna Challenge

Welcome to the Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge, an annual tuna tournament and fundraiser in San Diego with all proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of San Diego, Inc.

The 2019 Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge will be angling for a good cause in San Diego for its annual three-day Tuna Challenge tournament and event benefiting Make-A-Wish San Diego again this year. This event is the largest tuna fishing tournament in the continental U.S., raising over $3 million to date for granting wishes in San Diego. The tournament will culminate with an awards banquet celebration on Sunday, August 25 at the Portuguese Hall hosting a fresh fish fry lunch with entertainment, and a chance to win raffle items and bid on great auction items.

Thank you!

After a one year hiatus in 2017, the 2018 Tournament had a total of 45 teams made up of 212 anglers with nearly 3,500 lbs of fish caught and weighed in. Thanks to everyone who showed up to support our event: our anglers and their friends and families; all of the volunteers, members of Portuguese Hall and the Silver Gate Yacht Club; Make-A-Wish San Diego volunteers; as well as our tireless Tuna Challenge committee, especially our former chairperson Mike Smith who led the committee for 5 years and our 2019 chairperson, Dave Kirkpatrick. Everyone worked throughout the year to help us raise over $86,000 to help grant wishes to kids with critical illnesses.

Many thanks to all of our generous sponsors, found at the bottom of this page and on our Sponsorship page. Their support helps make the event a success so please support them with your business!
